On Wednesday, July 28, a production will be filming at the corner of Decatur and Barracks. Parking along parts of those blocks will be restricted from noon to midnight. There may also be intermittent traffic closures on those blocks.

That’s the corner by Cafe Envie and the U.S. Mint. Does anyone know what they are filming?

Thanks to the VCPORA Weekly update email for the tip.

Mules Gone Wild : Lower Decatur Edition

This Wednesday a mule pulling tourists through the French Quarter got spooked on Lower Decatur Street. They turned around on the 1200 block and went against traffic down the street bashing a minivan in front of Cafe Envie. A passenger jumped to safety near the Mint, and was later seen being checked out by EMS. Then the mule and empty carriage went the wrong way up Esplanade hitting several cars until, finally stopping when they impaled the side of a small car.

Got WiFi? Lower Decatur Street does.

While putting the together the interactive map for the site it came to my attention that there are a whole bunch of intentionally open wireless access points. I’d be willing to bet that there are more here in these few blocks than any other part of the city. So, somebody has to say it.

“Lower Decatur Street is New Orleans’ WiFi Hotspot!”

Here’s the current list:

  • Cafe Envie – 1241 Decatur Street
  • Coop’s Place – 1109 Decatur Street
  • J.C. Grocery Deli – 65 French Market Place
  • Mojo Lounge & Cafe – 1140 Decatur Street
  • Turtle Bay – 1119 Decatur Street
  • Whirling Dervish – 1135 Decatur Street

Most of the access points listed are usable in neighboring establishments.

Happy Surfing.

UPDATE: Added the Whirling Dervish to the list. Thanks, Cian

UPDATE: Removed Sarafina’s  (This should get moved to a page, instead of being in a post, so it’s always on the sidebar)

$2 Mimosas, Poinsettias, and Bloody Marys

The diabolical little caffine elves at Cafe Envie are at it again.  What better way to lure people to your place than cheap booze with breakfast.  Just in time in for the merriment surrounding Southern Decadence they’ve unveiled their latest special offering.

Breakfast is served 7am-2pm at 1241 Decatur Street (corner of Barracks).  They also have Gourmet coffee drinks, sandwiches, pasteries, desserts, and a full bar with some of the tastiest absinthe in the French Quarter.

Good only through August 30 – September 4.
